About Us

Horseshoe Bend Lodge isn’t just a business to us — it’s a piece of our family’s story; woven into the history of western Colorado and the valley we’ve called home for decades.

We are Dale and Gail Coombs, and Casey and Leah Griffith with our two kids. Together, we’re proud to steward this historic lodge and share it with guests who appreciate the beauty, heritage, and quiet magic of this place.

Dale and Gail both come from families who homesteaded in western Colorado. This land, these mountains, and this valley are part of our identity. We’ve lived here for more than 40 years, and there’s never been a question — this is home.

In fact, Horseshoe Bend Lodge has been part of our lives for generations. Dale and Gail managed the lodge back in the 1970s, long before it became ours. When the opportunity came to purchase it, we knew we weren’t just buying a property — we were preserving a legacy.

Horseshoe Bend Lodge began in the 1890s, during the days of the Midland Railroad, as a resort for travelers seeking rest, adventure, and the rugged beauty of the Rockies. Over the years, it has welcomed countless visitors, each adding their own chapter to its history.

When we took ownership, we embraced not only the land and the buildings but also the stories, traditions, and spirit that make this place special. Our goal is to honor that heritage while creating a warm, welcoming experience for today’s guests.

As a family, we’re committed to keeping Horseshoe Bend Lodge a place where people can slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect — with nature, with history, and with each other. Whether you’re here for adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, we’re grateful to share this corner of Colorado with you.
